Missing 17 year-old Vaughn Carl Dicang found dead in Baguio City
The remains of Vaughn Carl Dicang has been found in a river in Barangay Balacbac, Baguio City this Thursday (September 7). Dicang, 17, was a Grade 12 student in the University of Baguio -Senior High School prior to his apparent killing.
According to a report by GMA News, Dicang was still able to spend time with his friends Friday afternoon. He eventually excused himself to go home, but he never made it. His relatives say they tried to contact him through his mobile phone, but to no avail. He went missing for five days.
By all accounts, Dicang was an outstanding student. He received special recognition for finishing Grade 11 with a general weighted average of 95.67. Given his exemplary academic performance in senior high school, he will almost-certainly be admitted in top universities when he enters college next school year.
Although the circumstances leading to his death remains unclear, it seems eerily similar to what happened to Carl Angelo Arnaiz and Reynaldo de Guzman of Cainta City. The Caloocan City PNP claims that Arnaiz was a drug dependent who attempted to rob a taxi driver and engaged the authorities in a firefight.
Meanwhile, just yesterday, the lifeless body of De Guzman was found floating naked on a creek in Gapan, Nueva Ecija. His face and head was tightly wrapped in packaging tape and black rag. He reportedly sustained thirty stab wounds. Arnaiz and De Guzman is said to have been together when they were last seen alive midnight of August 18.
In a related development, human rights advocacy group Amnesty International has called for an international-level investigation to really find out the circumstances leading to these high-profile deaths. “This is not an isolated case or a mistake, but the latest atrocity in a wave of unlawful killings that has claimed the lives of more than 50 children and thousands of other Filipinos,” the group said.
