#MarcosDuwag trends nationwide as Bongbong Marcos chickens out of Jessica Soho interview

Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. is once again at the receiving end of ridicule from Filipino netizens after broadcast giant GMA Network revealed that he declined to participate in the interview series for presidential candidates to be hosted by multi-awarded veteran television journalist Jessica Soho.

During tonight’s telecast of 24 Oras, the network announced that only four candidates agreed to be interviewed by Soho: Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Manny Pacquiao, Senator Panfilo Lacson, and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso. The camp of Marcos has not explained why the presidential frontrunner is not participating. Shortly after the network’s announcement, the hashtag #MarcosDuwag became number one trending topic on social networking site Twitter.

Former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. will not be participating in the presidential interview series hosted by television journalist Jessica Soho.

Marcos’ decision to not participate in the interview series came just two weeks after his widely-mocked move not to appear in the preliminary conference of one of his disqualification cases because he was supposedly under home quarantine – even if the proceedings were held via Zoom.

It can be recalled that during the 2016 election cycle, Marcos declined to participate in the second vice presidential debate after his rivals fiercely attacked him during the first one. His opponents at that time including Robredo and then-Senators Alan Peter Cayetano, Francis Escudero, and Antonio Trillanes IV targeted Marcos over his family’s ill-gotten wealth, among other issues. Within a few weeks, Marcos lost his frontrunner status en route to narrowly losing the VP race to Robredo.
