#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for 4 September 2023 due to monsoon rains

(UPDATED, 12:00 PM of SEPTEMBER 4)

With significant portions of the Philippines still experiencing southwest monsoon rains intensified by typhoon “Hanna” (international name: Haikui), local government executives around the country are anticipated to announce class suspensions in their respective areas for 4 September 2023, Monday.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA’s 11:00 PM report, “Hanna” was last spotted at 270 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes (22.6°N, 120.1°E).

It carries maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (KPH) near the center, gustiness of up to 160 KPH, and central pressure of 970 hPa. It is moving westward at 25 KPH. It has strong to storm-force winds that extend outwards up to 560 km from the center. Batanes and Babuyan group of islands remain under storm warning signal #1 as of posting time.

“Hanna” is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility within the next hours. Nevertheless, the typhoon will continue strengthening the southwest monsoon rains until Wednesday.
