#WalangPasok – June 17 2024 to be declared Eid’l Adha holiday

UPDATED: June 9, 2024

Muslims all over the world will be observing Eid’l Adha, the Islamic Feast of Sacrifice, this June. This is one of the regular holidays this 2024 according to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 358 that he signed last October 2023.

Through Proclamation 579, Marcos announced that June 17, Monday, will be a special non-working holiday in connection with the observance of Eid’l Adha in the Philippines based on the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.

Eid’l Adha is an annual national holiday in the country as mandated by Republic Act (RA) 9849, which was signed in 2009 by then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The full text of RA 9849 can be accessed here.

Eid’l Adha, according to RA 9849, has great significance because it is the tenth day in the month of Hajj or Islamic Pilgrimage to Mecca “wherein Muslims pay homage to Abraham’s supreme act of sacrifice and signifies mankind’s obedience to God.”

Pay Rules For Eid’l Adha national holiday

As mentioned in the 2022_DOLE_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, employees covered by the holiday pay rule are entitled to receive 100% of their regular daily wage rate even if they do not report for work on regular holidays like the Eid’l Adha. This daily wage rate is the sum of a worker’s daily basic wage and cost of living allowance.

Meanwhile, those who will report for work on this regular holiday are entitled to get at least twice or 200% of their daily wage rate, which is more commonly referred to as “double pay.”
