September 7 2012 holiday in Cavite City
Cavite City will celebrate its 441st foundation anniversary this coming Friday, September 7, 2012. The day has been declared a special non-working holiday by the Office of the President through Proclamation 462. The proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. last August 25. The full text of Proclamation 462 can be accessed here.
According to an article In Wikipedia, Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi reached the area of Cavite City in 1571. Shortly thereafter, the area was declared an encomienda (a tract of land granted by the King of Spain to individuals who rendered valuable service to the Kingdom). In 1909, the Charter of the City of Cavite was ratified through Commonwealth Act 547, which you can read in full here.
