Philippine Science High School Application Exam 2014
The country’s most prestigious science high school in the Philippines is once again opening its doors to new applicants for school year 2014-2015. The Philippine Science High School System’s National Competitive Examination (NCE) is scheduled to be held on September 28, and interested parties should be able to file their papers on or before August 2. The school has set the following guidelines for applicants:
1. Must be in his/her 6th year in elementary level (excluding the years spent in nursery and kinder) from a school accredited by the Department of Education
2. Included in the upper 10% of their batch and with no grade below 80% as officially certified by the school principal or registrar
3. In case the applicant does not belong to the upper 10%, he/she should have a final grade of 85% in Science and Math and 80% in all other subjects
4. A Filipino citizen with no pending application to immigrate to another country
5. Born on or after June 1, 1999
6. In good health and fit to undergo a strenuous academic program for four years
7. Of good conduct and behavior
8. Must not have taken the exam previously

We highly encourage, though, that students take the review program during the summer, since students can focus on just reviewing and studying for the high school entrance tests.
Word of Caution
Pisay Main Campus has a very serious problem. Starting this school year, students are now required to be in school almost 10 hours a day. It used to be a little over 7 hours a day only. Reason given is that school lacks facilities. This is hard to understand because the number of students is the same. If there is a problem of facilities, shouldn’t class hours be reduced instead of increased? Most importantly, shouldn’t they fix the problem first before adding more students?
Students and parents have been making appeals to the school, but as of this writing, all were told that the long hours stays. By the way, school hours is from 7:30 AM to 5PM. For Mondays, it is 7:15 AM to 5PM. Students are able to leave school 5:30PM at the earliest, so they have to endure the traffic every day. Plus they are given homework with equivalent load of AT LEAST 3 hours a night.
Applicants of Pisay have to be “physically fit to undergo rigorous academic training.” The school is dead serious when they say this. This school year, they have really gone too far. They simply refused to agree that almost 10 hours of school every day is too much for the children. Sad to say, no one seems to be checking on them. The problem is that the school administrators did not make an announcement regarding long school hours prior to or during enrollment. (Consistent with their lack of understanding and compassion.) Had I known, I wouldn’t have re-enrolled my 2 children. It is not worth it when you see what they go through every day. I know because I already have a child who graduated from Pisay. NOT WORTH IT.
