#EarthquakePH – Magnitude 5.7 quake jolts parts of Luzon, Metro Manila

A strong earthquake with a magnitude 5.7 earthquake jolted parts of Luzon including early Monday morning (September 27).

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that Looc, Occidental Mindoro (coordinates 13.85N, 120.41E – 023 km N 50° E) is the epicenter of the earthquake at a depth of 74 kilometers. The earthquake, which is tectonic in origin, hit at 1:12 AM Philippine time.

The earthquake was hardest felt in Tagaytay City and Amadeo, Cavite, which experienced Intensity V. Meanwhile, intensity IV was felt in Malolos City and Obando in Bulacan, General Trias and Tanza in Cavite, San Mateo, Rizal, as well as the cities of Manila, Marikina, Las Pinas, and San Juan.

Intensity III was felt in Quezon City, Pasig City, Makati City, Valenzuela City, and Antipolo, Rizal. Meanwhile, Palayan City, Nueva Ecija experienced Intensity II. PHIVOLCS added that damages are expected from the quakes, and that aftershocks are also possible.
