Sebastian Duterte withdraws reelection bid as Vice Mayor of Davao City – #BotongPinoy2022

Presidential son Sebastian “Baste” Duterte has withdrawn his candidacy for reelection as Vice Mayor of Davao City Tuesday afternoon (November 9). His surprise move happened with six days left to go before the Commission on Election’s deadline for the substitution of candidates by political parties.

“I have filed my withdrawal as vice mayor Candidate of Davao City. I hereby nominate Atty. Melchor Quitain Jr. as my substitute. I am deeply grateful to the Dabawenyos for the support they have given me all this time. I have no other details to share at the moment.” the Vice Mayor said in a text message to reporters.

His withdrawal can mean two things. Number one, he is moving out of politics which is unlikely given his age and his family’s control on Davao City’s public life.

Another possible scenario is that Duterte will eventually file his candidacy for another position, perhaps for Mayor of Davao City. This can happen especially if his sister, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio decides to run either for President or Vice President on or before November 15.
