#WalangPasok – December 30 2021 declared a regular holiday

The Philippines would be marking the 125th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal this December 30, Thursday. The date commemorates the execution of the national hero in December 30, 1896 and not his birth date as commonly mistaken by many.

The day is a regular holiday throughout the country as stipulated in President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation 986, which he signed August of last year.

According to the 2020 DOLE handbook on workers statutory monetary benefits, employees are entitled to receive 100% of their regular wage rate even if
they did not report for work on the said day, provided that they are present or is on leave of absence with pay on the work day immediately preceding the holiday.

This means that those who will not report for work on November 29 will not be paid for the November 30 holiday unless they are on official leave. Meanwhile, those who will be working on November 30 will get twice or 200% of their regular daily wage  – also known as “double pay.”
