SADBOIS: Isko and Ping blew their chance to help save the nation from Marcos

In a hastily-organized press conference this Sunday afternoon, Senator Panfilo Lacson, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso, and forner National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales reiterated that they will not be withdrawing from the presidential race despite what they claimed as overtures from the camp of Vice President Leni Robredo for them to do so.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III, Lacson’s vice presidential candidate, and Willie Ong, Domagoso’s running-mate, also attended the media event. With just three weeks to go before Election Day, former Senator Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. remains the runaway frontrunner in the presidential race with Robredo at a distant second place.

Honestly speaking, Lacson and Domagoso are worthy contenders for the presidency. They, together with Senator Manny Pacquiao and labor leader Leody de Guzman, did not benefit from ill-gotten generational wealth. In other words, they are self-made men.

However, the reality is that we are faced with the huge prospect of Marcos winning the presidency in a landslide, as surveys indicate. His victory will be catastrophic for the country given how his family plundered the nation for twenty years as well as his very flawed character as a college drop out, tax-cheating, and underachieving lifetime politician.

As the surveys indicate, Robredo is the only who can stop Marcos from winning – and this view is sustained by the massive crowds that flock to her campaign events across the country.

However, it is evident that their huge egos and oozing machismo are preventing Domagoso and Lacson from withdrawing from the race in favor of the Vice President despite having minimal chances of winning.

Hence, Robredo’s supporters should make a concerted effort to emphasize to Isko, Ping, and Manny supporters how much of a threat to the nation a potential Marcos presidency is so they be persuaded to switch sides.
