Public school teachers to receive P3000 as DepEd 125th anniversary bonus

The Department of Education (DepEd) will be marking its 125th foundation anniversary this 23 June 2023. The theme for this year’s celebration is “DepEd@125: Isang Pamilya Para sa Matatag na Kagawaran,” according to a memorandum signed by Education Undersecretary Gloria Jumamil-Mercado on behalf of Vice President and concurrent Education Secretary Sara Duterte-Carpio.

In connection with this, public school teachers and other employees of DepEd who have rendered at least one year of service for the agency as of 23 June 2023 may be entitled to receive an anniversary bonus worth P3,000. This is stipulated in the guidelines on the grant of anniversary bonus which is stipulated in DepEd Order #47 of 2018 signed by then-Education Secretary Leonor Briones.

“The anniversary bonus is granted to government officials and employees on the occasion of the milestone years of the agency where they are employed. Milestone year is defined as the 15th anniversary of the government agency and every fifth year thereafter,” according to an excerpt from the said DepEd order.

The benefit will be received by qualified public school teachers and other DepEd employees not earlier than 23 June 2023. It remains to be seen if Duterte-Carpio will release her own order in relation with this matter in the coming weeks.
