#WalangPasok – August 25 2023 declared holiday in Iloilo City

Iloilo City will be celebrating its 86th charter anniversary this 25 August 2023. The day has been declared a special non-working day in the city according to President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation 306.

This special non-working holiday will give residents of Iloilo City a rare four-day weekend because 28 August 2023, Monday, is a regular holiday because of National Heroes Day.

Iloilo City was created through Commonwealth Act 57 of 1936 signed by then-President Manuel Quezon. It was also during Quezon’s tenure when August 25 of every year was first declared as a special public holiday to celebrate the foundation anniversary of the said city.

Pay Rules For Iloilo City Charter Day Anniversary – August 25, 2023

As mentioned in the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays like the Iloilo City charter day anniversary.

This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work on August 25 in Iloilo City are not due to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.

The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
