July 27 2012 Iglesia ni Cristo Day working holiday
Iglesia ni Cristo (INC), said to be the largest independent Christian Church in the Philippines and the entire Asia, will be celebrating its 98th founding anniversary on July 27, 2012. The day, which falls on a Friday, is a national working holiday.
This is in accordance with Republic Act 9645, which was signed into law by then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo back in June 2009. RA 9645 aims to recognize the “exemplary feat of (INC in) leading its members towards spiritual enlightenment and good citizenry.” Click here to read the full text of RA 9645.
However, that particular law does not mention if employers are required to give workers who are members of the INC a day off come July 27. According to the Department of Labor and Employment, employees who report for work on days listed as special working holidays will get only their basic rate. “No premium pay is required since work performed on said days is considered work on ordinary working days,” the DOLE said in its website.
