A ranking police officer from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) – Station 4 was ambushed while travelling along Zabarte Road in Novaliches early Monday morning.
Senior Inspector Roderick Medrano was with his wife and two children when their green Honda Civic was attacked by two gunmen in cahoots with two lookouts.
The ambush was recorded by a CCTV camera installed near the area. Watch it below:
At the start of the 15-second clip, Medrano’s car can be seen traversing a street on its way to Zabarte Road.
However, the car slowed down upon reaching the intersection, giving the two gunmen the chance to approach the vehicle and fire at Medrano pointblank from the car’s left and right side.
The actual shooting lasted for just about three seconds. After accomplishing his task, one of the gunmen (clad in a denim jacket) walked briskly toward a parked motorcycle with a companion.
His two other “teammates” apparently fled the scene as soon as the gunman was done with his task.
Since the apparent assassination happened in broad daylight, a good number of people must have witnessed the killing.
According to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, while Medrano died shortly after being rushed to a nearby hospital, his wife and kids were all unharmed. This underscores the fact that he’s the only target of the attackers.
InterAksyon.com reported that investigators are still checking if the assassination is related to Medrano’s line of work.
