#WalangPasok – August 28 2023 is National Heroes Day

Filipinos nationwide will be enjoying a three-day weekend later this August as the Philippines celebrate the annual National Heroes Day or the Pambansang Araw ng mga Bayani. This year, the day falls on August 28, Monday.

It is a regular holiday as listed in President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s Proclamation #42 which enumerated the holidays for 2023. Click here to read The Filipino Scribe‘s report about it.

The last week of August is significant in Philippine history because it was around this time when hero Andres Bonifacio and members of the Katipunan began the revolution against the Spanish colonial government in 1896.

Pay Rules for 28 August 2023 – National Heroes Day

As mentioned in the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary_Benefits, those who will report for work on National Heroes Day are entitled to get at least twice or 200% of their daily wage rate, This is more commonly referred to as “double pay.”

Nevertheless, DOLE mandates that employees can only get this benefit if they are present or at least have filed a leave of absence with pay on their work day immediately preceding National Heroes Day, which is most likely 25 August 2023.
