#WalangPasok – Class suspensions for January 9 2024

It is possible that classes in certain areas will be suspended today either because of the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck the municipality of Saranggani, Davao Occidental early this morning or due to inclement weather. It is also likely that some schools outside of Manila will suspend classes in connection with the Feast of Black Nazarene.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Intensity IV was experiended in the towns of Malungon, Alabel, and Kiamba. According to Department of Education (DepEd) Order #37 series of 2022, classes up to Grade 12 are automatically suspended in areas where the earthquake reached intensity V.

Meanwhile, local government units have the discretion to suspend classes in their respective localities if they experience earthquakes with intensity IV and below. The Filipino Scribe will be updating this post once new information becomes available.
