#WalangPasok – March 1 2024 declared a holiday in Muntinlupa City

Muntinlupa City will be celebrating its 29th cityhood anniversary this March 1, Friday. The day is a special non-working holiday in the city as stipulated in Republic Act 9191.

This was enacted in 2003, during the term of then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The full text of RA 7287 can be accessed in this web page. This holiday will give most of those working and studying in Muntinlupa City a three-day weekend because it falls on a Friday this year.

Pay Rules for the Muntinlupa cityhood anniversary – March 1, 2024

According to the 2023_edition of Department and Labor and Employment’s (DOLE)_Handbook_on_Workers_Statutory_Monetary Benefits, the “no work, no pay” principle should be in effect during special non-working holidays like this year’s celebration of Muntinlupa’s cityhood anniversary.

This means that workers who are not required or permitted to work in Muntinlupa City on March 1 are not due to receive any compensation unless there is a collective bargaining agreement or a company policy that implements that.

The handbook likewise highlighted that employees who work during special non-working days are entitled to receive an additional pay of 30% for every hour that they render service.
