Will they come or not?
Fans of international boy band One Direction took to social networking sites to express their anticipation and excitement over the possible concert of the British quartet in the Philippines sometime this year.
The unconfirmed report triggered so much buzz among netizens that the hash tag #1DinManila became a top trending topic on microblogging site Twitter.
According to the Internet posts, the group will have a show staged at the SM Mall of Asia Arena as part of their “Where We Are” concert series. The ticket prices is said to range from P5000 all the way to P20000.
However, such a concert is not yet listed in One Direction’s official website. In fact, according to the group’s schedule, they will not have any shows in Asia from not until October 2014.
That didn’t stop their Filipino fans from sharing their apprehension about what they expect to be the prohibitive cost of 1D’s concert tickets. In one Facebook thread for instance, some users said they wish the concert won’t happen this year so they can save money first.
The online buzz began last April 17 when One Direction Philippines (1DP), the largest group of 1D followers in the country, said in their social media accounts that Rhiza Pascua of Music Management International will make a “big announcement” by May 7.
“We think you already know what it might be so either way, make sure to save up!” 1DP said in their post. The fan group however decided to temper heightening expectations a few days later.
“We cannot control the things you hear or read from other people, but we do hope you are willing to wait until further official announcements have been finally made,” their officers wrote.
(Postscript: PR Asia Worldwide, a public relations firm for entertainment events, further fueled the speculations with this post: “The concert you are all buzzin’ about is set for 2 nights – March 2015 as part of their ASIA tour and will be held outdoors.” Hmmm…)
